Today is May 18, 1945, ten days after the end of World War II in Europe. I am 29 year old Lieutenant-Colonel James Thoreau, an former airman serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force. I have recently left the Air Force to return home after a four year service. During my service, I had received several decorations for my outstanding skill as a bomber pilot; I had single-handedly taken out many air fields, U-boat bases, and other planes. As a result, I quickly rose up the ranks of the RCAF. In four years, I rose from a Private to Lieutenant Colonel.
I have created this time capsule to preserve the memory of WWII and to share my experiences with those in the future. WWII was one of the greatest and most horrible wars Canada had taken part in. My hope is that the contribution of Canada and the Royal Canadian Air Force is never forgotten.
